1. the 4 parts of a CRITIQUE are description, analysis, interpretation and judgment. Critiques are used to show total output of effort and imagination of class.

4. Your Retablos was about making an image that was already in your brain from a iwsh, a dream, a good or bad thing, and to reinforce your knowladge of color. You made it on metal, covered it with GESSO(which acts as a primer and makes the paint stick, and will make a smooth easy surface if it is sanded a few times between layers. Then you mixed opaque ACRYLIC paint to paint them. Opaque means you can't see through the paint to the surface below it.

5. Retablos are "Naive art, which is untrained, from the heart and spirit.

THUMBNAIL SKETCHES are made to show other's what you have in your head, your ideas, also, to train your mind to see size relationships of thr parts of your drawing to each other and the whole page. For each important assignment in this class you made around 10 or more thumbnail sketches to make yourself begin to think about what you wanted your final sketch to look like.

7. Adding white to a color makes a tint. Adding black makes a shade:Color Value Scale.

8. Know your ELEMANTS of ART. Be able to define them.

9. Know your Principles of Design. Be able to apply them to an image.

10. Scratching are all about Texture.

11. Always draw lightly till you are sure of all your decisions, Then you can darken the lines if you feel you need to.

12. Your "FADE" was a composition using OGABVR, then it was colored in with colored pencils. You were asked to use 4 and 5 color: analogous color plus white and black or a lighter and darker analogous to make the color value fade from light to dark. You were supposed to change the Value at the edge of your shapes.

13. Neutrals are made by mixing complimentary colors. Complimentary colors are across from each other on the COLOR WHEEL. Neutrals make grayed, browny colors. Know Primary, Secondary, Intermediate colors. Analogous colors are the colors next to each other, Intermediate colors are between Primary and Secondary. Know the COLOR WHEEL inside out.

14. The Elements, Principles and Rules should be used when composing art.

15. One point perspective create depth. Using it is a way to make a painting not look flat.

16. Avoid the habit to Outline first. Make the drawing or painting. Color it in, at the end, outline if you think you need to...but not in the beginning.

17. The Internet makwes research for images very easy. You can find and download images for your compositions, and you can also take virtual tours of museums to get ideas.

18. Really odserving is important when drawing something that your looking at. You can look at anything: a flower, a shoe... and see shepes, lines, colors, textures (The Elements) that you never knew were there... if you look closely.

19. Craftsmanship shows that you take pride in your work; you clean up the smudges, straighten out the lines, take care not to wrinkle the paper.

20. At the end of the year you need to make the room as clean and neat as it was when you entered it. We've done most of the cleaning, but are still using materials. They need to be kept clean so they can be put away without more cleaning.

21. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR the $34 or $17 fee, and you will not graduate Sunset unless you pay it. You are on a list that lives as long as you are here. The list doesn't forget.

22. Artist are willing to take chances with new materials and play and experiment with them like you did as a child. They are willing to see the same old thing in a new way. They learn from their mistakes. I hope you've become acquainted with the artist within you.
